Fat Isn’t A Bad Word

19 September, 2019

When we were kids, we all heard that fat creates fat. But the older we got, the wiser we became, and we learned the right fats are actually healthy and good for you. Who knew? Time to put those yolks back in your omelette because it’s time to eat fats. Saturated fat isn’t the bad guy it has been made out to be for so many years. Believe it or not, high-fat foods have been moved back into the ‘super food’ category. If you haven’t heard, the all famous keto diet is all the rage right now and it concentrates on high-fat and protein intake, while keeping carbs and sugar right down to a bare minimum.

So, you’re probably wondering what foods are high in fat? You’ll be surprised at what you can pop in your gob, guilt free.

Avocado
It’s considered a fruit but instead of being high in carbs and sugar like majority of fruit, avocado is over 70% fat. So have an avo next time you’re at Locomotion for some delicious brekkie.

Cheese
Shut the front door, cheese is healthy? Well, a little bit. It’s nutritious, a great source of calcium and contains vitamin B12. Just like all high-fat foods, it’s all about moderation. You can’t eat a whole block of cheese, but you can add some haloumi to your dinner plate.

Eggs
Eggs are possibly one of the most versatile and healthy foods. Loaded with vitamins and minerals, eggs also contain rich antioxidants, as well as those excellent fats we need. A Chatty’s Sunrise wrap from Steam Engine has you covered on the egg front.

Nuts
You wouldn’t think it to look at them, but nuts are overflowing with rich fats. Once again though, all in moderation. You can’t snack on nuts all day but a small handful packs a punch in the healthy fat department, and Horn of Plenty have a big variety that you can choose from!

Oil
Mainly extra virgin olive oil, and coconut oil. Cooking with either of these oils can boost your metabolism and suppress your appetite.

Dark chocolate.
We saved the best for last. Studies have proven that dark chocolate is actually good for you. You have to choose wisely though, with at least 70% cocoa.

So, fat is back and it’s here to stay. Add your healthy fats back into your diet and your taste buds will love you.
