Asian grocery go-to’s when you’re too tired to cook

Walking into an Asian supermarket can be a bit overwhelming if you’re a newbie, there’s a treasure trove of weird and wonderful smells, textures, delicacies and delights to discover! But, if you’re simply after a quick and easy ‘go-to’ meal when you’re too tired to cook, then your local Asian grocery store will be your new BFF. Trust us!

Ramen


Who doesn’t love a good ol’ bowl of 2 minutes noodles, right? Ramen takes instant noodles to a whole new level with huge variety of packets filled with punchy flavours and you’re gonna want to try all of them! They’re cheap as chips, delicious and are literally ready in a matter of minutes. They’re awesome on their own and they also make a great brothy base if you want to bulk up your bowl by adding in some veges and or protein. Stock your pantry up with oodles of these noodles and get slurpin’!

Tofu


Ok hear us out with this one. While the sound of ‘Soy Bean Curd’ doesn’t sound that exciting, Tofu is actually incredibly versatile (you can even scramble silken tofu just like eggs!) and is a healthy, quick and easy ‘Meat-Free Monday’ meal option. Try tossing a few cubes of tofu into a simple miso soup with udon noodles for a light bite, or chuck some firm tofu cubes in a pan with some Chinese broccoli. Although yes, Tofu can be pretty bland on its own, never fear because there’s always a huge range of ready-made sauces and seasoning mixes that will turn your bean curd from ‘blah’ to bloomin’ delicious in a matter of minutes!

Frozen Pancake/Roti


A cheap and cheerful must have for your freezer that promises a quick bite with crisp and crunch you crave. Usually these come in packs of five or so and only a few minutes to fry up in a pan. Add salt and pepper and trust us when we say, you’re going to want to dip these bad boys into anything and everything!. Note- these are best eaten hot and fresh out of the pan (try not to burn your tongue!)

Dumplings & Pot Stickers


These little packages of perfection can be steamed, boiled or fried. They come ready made and frozen so literally all you have to do is cook them in your preferred way. These delectable dumplings are filled with various meat, seafood and vegetable flavour combinations and will have your tastebuds doing the happy dance in under just 20 minutes. Wizz up a quick simple dipping sauce using soy sauce, Chinese vinegar and fresh chilli for a kick!
