Cross-Cultural Cuisines
28 February, 2020
Tis’ food that brings us together! It’s no secret that food is strongly tied to identity and each country has its own food identity and recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation. Whether it’s a Nonna making her traditional handmade gnocchi in her tiny cosy kitchen or a Japanese mother teaching her child about the art of creating Bento.. we have all learnt a thing or two about our own countries cuisines and for the record, we’re damn proud of our Aussie Lamingtons and Anzac bikkies!
When taking a bite of pizza, Italy springs to mind, and just the smell alone of a chicken korma curry cooking can transport our senses straight to India. Yes, food is one of the best ways to experience different cultures and we love that each is so unique and different, our cultural dishes showcase traditional methods and flavours that are exclusive to our homeland. So, what happens when you throw various global flavours together in one big pot? Cross-Culture Cuisine that’s what!
Culinary creators all around the world have been fusing cultural cuisines together and while merging ethnic ingredients takes incredible skill to get the flavours right, it’s not an impossible feat. In fact its more popular in restaurants these days than you may realise. General Chao is the perfect example of beautifully blended Asian and Australian flavours that makes for an unforgettable dining experience. Using Australia’s finest produce, the menu features dishes such as their Chickpea Miso Braised Cabbage made with Tasmanian chickpea miso butter and crispy chickpea, and their delicious Beef Rendang Pie (because what Aussie doesn’t love a good pie).
Stretch Italian’s motto is simple ‘ Respecting Italian culinary traditions, but not being limited by them’ and we couldn’t love this perspective any more than we already do! Their King Prawn pappardelle features awesome Aussie prawns, sautéed with fire roasted cherry tomatoes, basil, chilli, garlic and a white wine butter sauce. And if that’s not enough to get your mouth-watering, their Australia Pork Belly & Crackling, served with confit fennel, apple puree and a walnut, sweet raisin and rocket salad is the perfect blend of Australian-Italian flavours that will have you wanting to lick your plate afterwards.
Head on over to Chatswood Interchange and experience cross-cultural cuisines that will dazzle and delight both traditional and curious palettes!
