Detoxing on a budget
31 December, 2019
We ate, we drank and all was merry! But with 2020 vision (pardon the pun) we’re ready to give our bodies a break from all things naughty and over-indulgent and with a new year comes the yearning to consume all things ‘health’ and less things ‘hangover’. *shudders at the foggy memory of consuming too many tequila shots on NYE* .We all know that ‘Health’ can be hefty when it comes to pricing everything up. Luckily we’ve got the perfect detox tips and tricks that won’t break the bank and that you can easily implement into your daily routine on a budget (because let’s face it, we’re all broke after the Silly Season’).
Detoxing isn’t rocket science and its actually not as scary as it sounds either. Detoxing is simply getting back to basics, not just with our diets but with our mindsets also.
H20 – Loading yourself up with water is a great way of A. staying hydrated but also it helps flush out your kidneys. Have a bottle of water with you everywhere you go, you’ll find you’ll soon get into the habit of sipping away and drinking your 2L per day (the more water, the better!)
Apple Cider Vinegar with ‘THE MOTHER’– A little of this stuff goes a long way. 1 tablespoon in water before each meal will help to optimize your absorption of Iron and Vitamin b12 as it increases stomach acids. ‘The Mother’ is a cloudy-like substance within in the vinegar which is believed to be rich in health boosting natural protein, healthy ‘good’ bacteria and acetic acid.
Eat Clean – Plenty of fresh veggies and fruits and less saturated fats and sugars. Eating as fresh and ‘clean’ as possible will help the cleanse process and your body will love you for it.
Ditch the Caffeine – If you can’t give it up all together, drink green tea which contains little amounts of caffeine but not as much as coffee and other caffeinated beverages. Taking out stimulants helps to restore the adrenals.
Take a break from the Booze – It’s a no brainer that when doing a detox, its best to lay off the booze whilst doing so. You’ll be more likely to see benefits such as weight loss, reduced bloating, balanced blood sugar, better sleep and possibly even lower anxiety.
Detoxing, cleanse or however you want to put it, is not only is about changing up our diet but also implementing healthy lifestyle choices. This can be anything from light exercise, going out in the fresh air, feeling the sand between your toes, meditating, limiting screen time and aiming for a good eight hour sleep each night. With a positive mindset will come positive results! Don’t think of your detox as a ‘punishment’ or ‘deprivation’ but rather something you are actively doing for you – because YOU deserve it!
