21 November, 2019

We all know self-care is important and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg to take care of yourself. Sure, going to the beauty salon is a gorgeous experience, but when it can become costly. When it comes to maintaining a beautiful complexion, we have our favourite DIY face masks and scrubs that you can literally make yourself at home. With just a few simple tips, tricks and ingredients, your skin will be glowing and feel fresh and rejuvenated in no time.

‘De-Puff Me’ Face Mask

The silly season is upon us, and with the champagne flowing and nights out growing, the next morning can come as a puffy faced shock. Aside from keeping well hydrated, we have a cheeky quick fix to help reduce puffiness and have you looking fresh as a daisy (even if you don’t feel it #hangover).

What you’ll need
1 Tbsp of ground coffee
1 Tbsp of powdered turmeric
1 Tbsp of Greek Yoghurt

Mix together and apply all over your face including under the eye area where puffiness seems to sit in little sad pockets (we’ve all been there!) Lay back and relax for 20 minutes or so and wait for this concoction to work its magic. Don’t worry if the mask doesn’t ‘dry’ such as clay masks do, it’s more of a wet mask. Remove mask with a damp warm cloth and apply moisturiser or serum for best results. Caffeine contains awesome antioxidants and reduces inflammation while the turmeric boosts the skin with vitamin C. Lactic acid AHA smooths the skin making this the perfect mask to pop on after a big night out.

‘Charcoal Is The New Black’ Face Mask

It’s become well known in the past few years that charcoal contains many amazing properties that help our bodies not only from the inside, but from the outside too. Many store brought face masks contain charcoal for this reason, but you don’t have to fork out the big bucks to get the benefits of this natural black beauty.

What you’ll need
1/3 cup of melted coconut oil (organic is best)
2 Tbsp activated charcoal powder
½ tspn baking soda

Apply to your face for 20 minutes and remove with a warm damp cloth. Activated charcoal helps to remove toxins and aids in healing skin impurities. Coconut oil is a natural moisturiser and also has antimicrobial properties, meaning it’s a great at bacteria busting giving a brightening boost your skin will love you for. *Note: this mask is best used once a week as baking soda can irritate the skin if applied too often.

‘So, Wake Me Up When It’s All Over’ Face Scrub

Feeling like that pretty little face of yours needs a real ‘pick me up’? Sometimes cleansing just won’t cut it, and we need something a little more coarse to get right down into our pores for that fresh and truly clean feeling. That’s why we love scrubs, especially in the festive season where waking up after work drinks the night before can be a … challenge to say the least. Never fear, because this super invigorating face scrub will wake up tired skin, stat!

What you’ll need
½ a fresh cucumber
3-4 cups of sugar (any sugar is fine but we love the smell of coconut sugar for extra yumminess)
½ tbsp coconut or olive oil (organic is best)
1 small handful of finely chopped mint leaves

‘Everything’s Just Rosy’ Face Scrub

This one is simple, sweet and smells divine. You’ll blossom and bloom with this beautiful rose infused mask and you’ll feel a million bucks in no time.

What you’ll need
1tsp rosewater
½ tsp almond flour or finally ground almonds (you can simply blitz them in a blender)

Mix it together, smother it on and let the rosy goodness sink in for 10-15 mins. Rinse with warm water and enjoy smelling like heaven for the entire day!
