How Do You Pronounce Acai And… What on earth Is It?!

30 October, 2019

Acai tenaciously burst onto the scene a couple of years ago but what the hell is it? Well, it’s actually a berry and extremely healthy for you. Packed full of antioxidants (amongst other things) acai is extremely good for your gut and your overall health. Considered natures ‘purple gold,’ the acai berry is all over your Instagram feed and is super popular whizzed up with coconut water and placed in a bowl to be consumed with seasonal fruits placed atop. Pronounced ah-sah-hee, this berry is high on the food pyramid.

Found on acai palm trees in South American rainforests, acai berries are a lot like grapes. The seed takes up about 80% of the berry, but the flesh and skin pack plenty of vitamins and other nutrients in the remaining 20%. Not to mention the berries are only about 70 calories a cup. Delicious and nutritious.

Why Is It Good For You?
Acai is stacked full of antioxidants, fibre, healthy fats and calcium. This is one seriously epic berry that is vines above the rest. It’s definitely an over looked berry that can be added into so many different meals to perk you up and get your gut into gear. Plus, when you whip it up in a smoothie bowl, it gives such a beautiful luminous colour, it’s the perfect opportunity to snap a pic for your gram.

Where Can I Find It?
Stone and Peel have hit the nail on the head with their acai bowl. Stuffed to the brim with nutritious colours and flavours, topped off with seasonal fruits, coconut flakes and muesli. A perfect breakfast, lunch or snack on the go to fill you up with healthy deliciousness. You can also purchase acai in powder form from Woolworths to chuck in your shake in the morning for your morning commute. So, be honest- have you been saying it wrong this whole time?
