Kombucha with a Kick!
21 February, 2020
You’ve heard about kombucha, but have you heard about spiked kombucha? An up and coming delicious new fix drink, spiked kombucha has good bacteria, mixed with a little
alcohol to make for a fun Friday afternoon drink.
What is it?
Basically, it’s kombucha – spiked. It’s delicious and nutritious and low carb. It’s completely gluten free and you can enjoy a can of it without feeling guilty. With usually only 4.5% alcohol volume, you can grab a couple after work. Although kombucha already has 0.05% of alcohol in it already, spiked kombucha adds a little pizazz to your evening. With refreshing flavours, you can perfectly pour it over ice with a slice of cucumber for an extra refreshing beverage. But what is kombucha you ask? Kombucha is a fermented tea made possible thanks to Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast, also known as a SCOBY. It’s typically fermented with sugar (preferably cane sugar) in a process that usually takes about 2 weeks. The mother SCOBY can be spread into pieces to grow more good bacteria and probiotics which are said to help with digestion and your immune system. After your tea has been fermented for 2 weeks, it is lightly carbonated to create a sensational concoction for you to drink. It’s the fermentation process that adds the 0.05% of alcohol. It seems like everyone is jumping on board with the alcoholic kombucha trend. You can grab a four pack from BWS with flavours like ginger and turmeric, berry lime, pink apple, blood orange and more. You can spend anywhere between $20 – $24 for a 4 pack of refreshing flavoursome kombucha. You’ll be buying them all to try the different choices. But remember, drink responsibly. To be honest, no one drinks alcohol for the health benefits, however, if you pop open a spiked kombucha, you can add a little health benefit to your Friday afternoon drink.
