Get your fix of these ‘limited time only’ treats
If you’ve been to Woolies lately, you may’ve noticed some of the fruits we’re used to seeing are a little scarce this summer.
Well just like everything else in 2020, COVID has impacted the stock levels for many things. And fruit is one of them. While Aussies are used to seeing whatever fruit they want, any time of the year they want it, things are a little different things year.
But that just means we can get back to eating seasonal fruits. The way nature intended.
And that means summer stone fruits!
Lush summer stone fruits
There’s just something deliciously lush about stone fruits.
And yes, we may be about to go all Nigella on you.
Most stone fruits are gorgeously squishy, succulent fruits, made to be devoured as the juice runs down your hands.
Peaches and nectarines. Plums and apricots. Mangoes and cherries. As soon as you see these beauties on the shelves, in all their glistening glory, you just know that lazy summer days, trips to the beach and catch ups with friends and loved ones are just around the corner.
Using our summer seasonal stone fruits
Stone fruits are in season from November to April. Rich in Vitamins A, C and E, they’re also a good source of potassium and dietary fibre. Delicious and nutritious, always a winning combination.
And happily, stone fruits are super versatile in the kitchen. Here’s just some of the ways we love to use them:
Raw – stone fruits are just meant to be eaten raw. Cut them open and remove the seed for the kids, they’re a tasty summer change from apples, oranges and bananas.
Breakfast – smoothie bowls and smoothies, there’s a zillion recipes just waiting for you to try. Pancakes and peaches are a match made in culinary heaven.

Salads – few things beat a fresh summer salad on a hot summer day.
Stone fruits pair perfectly with traditional savoury salad elements, adding a sweet note to your bowl, whether it’s a main meal or a side dish. Think mixed leaves with mozzarella, mint, peach and prosciutto or the invigorating spiciness of a Thai green mango salad.
Of course, they’re also perfect in a fruit salad, like boozy stone fruit salad with hazelnut praline that stopped us in our tracks. Perfect for ending your summer celebrations on a sweet note.

Cocktails – when it comes to summer cocktails, I have just one word for you.
Sangria! Stone fruits go wonderfully in sangria, or you can also experiment with making white peach puree to mix with prosecco for Bellinis. Alternatively, whip out your blender for a range of DIY daquiris.
