Mother’s Day – How to make it special this year

30 April, 2020

The thing most mums want for Mother’s Day is a day off from cooking! Mother’s Day 2020 will definitely be different so it’s even more important to celebrate the woman who nurtures and feeds you every other day of the year. Start with croissants or banana bread for breakfast from Steam Engine, delivered on a tray straight to mum’s bedside, with a steaming hot cup of coffee or tea in a real teapot.

Roll out your picnic mat for a delightful outdoor lunch (weather permitting) and decorate a tray or bowl for the centre with flowers, add pretty table settings and anything else you know your mum enjoys. Order pizza from Stretch or a fragrant curry from General Chao . While you’re on that page, don’t forget to order a pink lemonade tart for a cheeky lunch dessert.

Set up the dining room for the dinner delivery. Masterstock has an array of soulful soups to choose from and Comfort Kitchen has delicious ready made meals that you can serve up for the
whole family.
Don’t forget that Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Door Dash are doing contact free drop offs so you can order your favourite local meals through them too.

Create your own restaurant at home

There will be no cafe or restaurant meals this year so why not break out the fancy crockery, the good silver and the crystal water jugs and make an occasion of your Mother’s Day celebration.
Decorate the table with a proper tablecloth, use real napkins, light some candles and pick some flowers from the garden to put in a vase as a centrepiece. Your mum will love the extra effort you make to help her feel special.

Where to order meals in the Chatswood area

Have you heard of HospoMarket? Local venues General Chao, Stretch Italian and The Steam Engine have created a way to save jobs and service the community with a one stop food store which sells restaurant quality pre-cooked meals, meal kits and groceries. You can choose to click and collect or have your meals delivered to your home. Want bonus brownie points from mum? Order some extra ready meals to feed the family during the week too! Check out your favourite eateries at Chatswood Interchange to see the special treats they’re offering.

How to share a meal with your mum if you’re not in iso together

Don’t forget that Grandma’s are mothers too. Order the same meal for your mum and have it delivered to her at home. If your mum is older and isolating alone she will appreciate your
company as much as the meal and gifts you send her. Use Facetime, Zoom, Google Hangouts or even just call and put your phones on speaker while you eat together.
