Oil Be Alright – From olive to avocado

25 October, 2019

When we were kids, our parents cooked with olive oil and that was it. Peanut oil was only on the menu when we ran out of olive oil and we noticed a distinct taste difference but they would never let on what the difference was. Perusing the shopping aisle as an adult, we can’t seem to decide between the plethora of oils on the shelf. You can simply and easily change the orient of a dish by what oils you add to it. Completely changing the taste and overall sensation with a simple tablespoon of a different oil.

What Are The Different Types Of Oils?

Olive Oil
To start with, there’s olive oil. A standard staple in many a cupboard. You can use it for cooking in a pan however it’s not good to heat over 160 degrees Celsius otherwise it burns. Extra virgin olive oil can be mixed with a bit of lemon juice and salt for a delicious and healthy salad dressing.

Sesame Oil
Sesame oil is pressed from roasted sesame seeds and it’s great for frying foods and salad dressing as well. If you love sesame seeds, you’ll be right into sesame oil. It changes the whole flavour of whatever you add it to and enhances a nutty flavour.

Avocado Oil
Avocado oil is super healthy and high in good fats. Once again, this oil can be used for high heat cooking, such as in a pan. Avocado oil is great for your complexion if you want to mix together some fresh avocado, honey and avocado oil for an at home face mask.

Almond Oil
Almond oil is perfect for all of your baking needs. This oil is also healthy and contains good fats, but in small doses.

Sunflower Oil
This oil is great for salad dressings and gives a distinct taste to any dish it is added to.

Coconut Oil
Extracted from fresh coconuts, this oil has been proven to boost your metabolism and a great one to use for cooking due to its heat resistance. It’s also extremely nourishing for your skin and can be used as a moisturiser for your body.

Canola Oil
This oil is perfect for deep frying due to it’s heat resistance also. A good all-purpose oil, definitely have a bottle of this one in your pantry at all times.

Peanut Oil
Made from steam cooked peanuts, it’s great for frying and adding to marinades for a full peanut flavour. Always check with your guests if anyone has a peanut allergy as it’s high risk for many.
