Kombucha. What is it and why is it so popular? The Kardashian of the fizzy drink world, Kombucha is not only delicious, it’s also nutritious. With its many health benefits and yummy taste, kombucha has bacteria that is one of the good guys.

What is it?

Kombucha is a pro-biotic drink that detoxes your gut, promotes and aids digestion and instantly make you look fancy AF. It’s super easy to make yourself with its black tea base and although good for you, it’s surprisingly made with sugar. Paired with an ever growing mama scoby, which stands for symbiotic culture of acetic acid (vinegar) bacteria and yeast, this cultured drink is not for the faint hearted.

Why is it so popular?

Like everything Instagram worthy, kombucha is likes above the rest, predominantly due to its health benefits. The fermented fizzy drink comes in so many different flavours, it’s becoming more popular than regular soda. Although fermented, kombucha generally contains less than 0.5% alcohol, which is classed as a non-alcoholic drink by food standards Australia and New Zealand. Cardi B loved the Kombucha culture so much that she named her baby after it. But with a K, because ya girl gotta be different.

Where Can I Buy It?

A wide variety of kombucha flavours can be found at Woolworths from $3.50 with flavours like Ginger Lemon, Raspberry Lemon and Pomegranate Apple. Horn of Plenty even sell kombucha on tap. Served ice cold in reusable glass jars in original and blackberry flavours.

Kombucha is the new black. If you love jumping on the health kick trends, this is surely one you’ll genuinely benefit from. Trust us, your gut with thank you.
